Reviewing Crumbl’s Chocolate Covered Banana Cookie

Official description: A chilled banana bread cookie topped with a banana mousse and a crunchy layer of semi-sweet chocolate, finished with a sprinkle of peanuts.

Unsalted peanuts I might add. The aroma wasn’t too great as the unsalted peanut smell hit me first. Then the more subtle banana, but when cold, the chocolate wasn’t too powerful either.

Reviewing Crumbl’s Chocolate Covered Banana Cookie

To judge this cookie fairly, I took a bite of the underside, wanting to taste only the banana bread cookie. Initially, it was bland, but after it warmed up in my mouth the true taste of homemade banana bread became apparent. I wanted to have more.

Banana in a cookie? Not usually. Banana with chocolate? Tempting. Banana + chocolate + cookie? Let’s unpack this.

I wasn’t expecting much of anything as I don’t usually make or eat banana mousse/frosting. I’d made a batch of banana-flavored macarons but it was paired with coconut. Banana is naturally a subtle flavor. I haven’t made or eaten banana bread in quite a while and most of us know that a healthy dose of cinnamon, nutmeg and walnuts perk it up. But Crumbl’s banana, peanut and chocolate combination really is a winner.

Lately, I’m on a cookie-baking kick and I created an awesome recipe that I’m looking forward to sharing. I couldn’t believe how wonderful they tasted and looked. They were a joy to photograph and I’m making another batch to share the recipe and possibly even do a step-by-step video. Watch for it next month.

I don’t know when this trend of underbaked cookies began, and maybe it has to do with allowing more batches to be made as they don’t bake as long. Ever since I was a child I was always eating any type of cookie batter no matter how many times my mom discouraged it. before I began baking somewhat regularly, I’d bough refrigerated tubes and tubs of cookie dough and ate them as is or at least add large pieces to vanilla ice cream.

This large cookie is similar to Levain with its 6-ounce weight. But Levain doesn’t have frosted cookies, nor ones with a magic/hard shell-like chocolate topping.

Unlike most cookies that can be reheated in a toaster oven or microwave, the Chocolate Covered Banana Cookie is supposed to be served chilled. I had to put mine in the refrigerator anyway as there was a bit of melting since I ran some errands on the way home. I recommend Crumbl’s banana, peanut and chocolate combination and give it 5 stars!

Cookie price: $4.49

Served in a cute bakery pink box.
